McCall 8th graders competed in the regional National History Day competition recently with phenomenal results!

Congrats to the thirteen 8th graders who qualified for the NHD PA state competition in May!

Five of the students who placed third are eligible for the competition, but with a fee. Please consider making a donation to send these five McCall 8th grade students to the National History Day PA State Competition on May 11th to 12th.  Any amount is greatly appreciated.

The election process for HSA Officers (President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer) is underway. A description of all the positions can be found HERE.

The Nomination Form has been sent home. If you would like to nominate yourself or others, please return the form by Monday, April 30th at 3 PM.

The Election will take place on May 30th.

The last day of Chess Club will be Thursday, April 26th.

Thank you to Ms. Stuart and her fiancé David Drew for another wonderful year of leading Chess Club!

They will be providing a light breakfast Thursday morning to the participants.

This year’s Scholastic Book Fair will be held Tuesday, May 1st through Friday, May 4th.

The students will visit the fair with their homeroom teachers. The fair will remain open during the Parent/Teacher conferences on May 2nd, and 3rd until 2PM, and on May 4th until 1PM so families can visit together.

Parents and teachers can download the free Scholastic Book Fair app to help them make their selection.

The book fair is available ONLINE from April 25th through May 8th with a wider selection of titles than the fair itself.

We are looking for parent volunteers to help us run the fair. If you can help, please sign up HERE.

Our “All for Books” donation program is back this year, and we hope it will allow us again to provide books to students who cannot otherwise afford them. There will be collection boxes in your child’s classroom, so send in your loose change!

Staff Appreciation Week is coming up! Help us show our appreciation for all of McCall’s wonderful staff by contributing to the Staff Appreciation Breakfast on Tuesday, May 8th!

Please sign up HERE to provide any of the suggested items on the list to complete the buffet table for our all of our teachers and staff. You may also provide a donation that will purchase breakfast items.

Please bring your items to the Library as early as you can on the morning of Tuesday, May 8th so that our staff can enjoy this treat for Teacher Appreciation Week.

Our annual Election Day Bake Sale will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 from 8 AM to 10 AM at two locations: McCall School and Jefferson polling location (10th & Locust).

We need lots of baked goods! For those who are donating baked goods, drop them off at McCall and at Jefferson polling station (10th & Locust).

Thank you to Bake Sale Co-Chairs Melissa Raffel and Nancy Lin for volunteering!

If you don’t want to bake, we welcome contributions of orange juice, bottled water, granola bars, fruit, pretzels, and other healthy snacks!

Ms. Stuart’s Fifth Grade Class (as part of its Service-Learning Project) in conjunction with the Philadelphia Streets Department is hosting an Electronic Waste Collection Day at McCall on Wednesday, May 16th starting at 7:30 AM.

The collection truck will be parked in the school yard on the 7th Street side.

Parents may drop off any and all old electronic waste laying around your homes in an effort to properly and safely dispose of these items.

Coach Nick is again organizing a Talent Show for the McCall community on Wednesday, May 23rd at 3:30 PM!!

Auditions (for students Grade 3 and up) will take place on Monday, April 30th (3:30 PM to 5:00 PM) and Wednesday, May 2nd (12:30 to 2:00 PM (Half Day)) in the auditorium.

We had a great turnout at our 7th Annual McCall Relays on Saturday at Starr Garden and a fun time was had by all!

A huge thank you to Ed Andrews for taking charge of the bullhorn and facilitating all of the great races!

Thank you to Students Run Philly Style and Playworks for assisting with the event!

A special thanks to Sheri Feinberg for coordinating this fantastic event, yet again.

All of the kids (and adults!) enjoyed the races and we look forward to next year!
