Ms. Rock led the “Coffee with the Principal” and provided updates on school information.
Summer Reading (K-2) & (3-8)
The students in grades K-2 will each receive 10 books in a tote bag for summer reading provided by the district and students in grades 3-8 will each receive one summer reading book purchased with McCall’s budget.
Grants Update
We are working on obtaining grants focused on science and technology: the Innovation Grant and the Collaboration Grant, each are $50,000. We are working improve the science facilities in the school.
Staffing
Ms. Rock has conducted around 50 interviews and met some really good candidates. So far we have hired four out of the five new positions. Our hires must be dual-certified.
Meeting with Mayor
This afternoon Ms. Rock will go to a meeting with Mayor Kenney and other principals to talk about many of the issues we face in our schools. She will publicize our upcoming Casino Night!
Parent Surveys
Please complete the surveys. Some people did it at the teachers’ conferences and the students will be completing them at school.
Blue & Gold Day will be held on June 17th.
HSA
Home & School President Laurel Landau then welcomed everybody.
The nominating committee announced that many parents with younger children showed interest in future positions during the nominating process. The announcement of the elected officers will be made later this week.
Laura Sepe, Treasurer, announced that we raised about $61,000 this school year through donors. We had a grant from Washington Square West Trust which we used for Smart Boards. We raised $23,000 on our other fundraising ventures. We spent approximately $100,000 this year on things including Playworks, the safety surface, textbooks, Smart Boards, the upgraded sound system, software, and the new drinking fountains. We currently have a balance of approximately $69,000, of which approximately $12,000 is restricted.
Laurel is beginning work on our EITC renewal application so that we can be an approved institution for PA businesses to select to support us through the tax credit program.
We briefly reviewed our recent events: The Lion King was phenomenal last week! McCall Relays in April went very well, as did World Day/Silk Road Bazaar.
Our 4th Annual Casino Night & Silent Auction will take place on Saturday, June 4th, which is very soon! Laurel reminded everybody to please buy their tickets soon, if they hadn’t, as we have to give our final numbers to the Marriott by June 1st and we want to ensure we have enough food! She thanked everybody for soliciting auction items; it’s going really well. She will send out a call for volunteers to help with things during the event.
We discussed the day/night out at Primp & Play; they are going to donate 30% of their proceeds on June 2nd, so make an appointment and do your Casino Night beauty prep there!
We discussed the Recess Raffle; tickets are $1 each and the winning class gets an extra recess period with Ms. Rock and a treat!
