Revised Schoolyard Master Plan Meeting

Bambi Yost will be back at McCall to discuss our Revised Schoolyard Master Plan; she will meet with interested parents on Monday, Nov 21st at 11:30 AM in the library (before our 12:00 PM dismissal). She will meet with interested staff at 3:15 PM, also in the library.

This week’s highlights

The most important news and events for the week of November 14-20, 2016:

McCall Kickball

On Friday November 11th, McCall’s kickball team, the Bears, participated in the Playworks jamboree at Horatio B. Hackett School.

The Bears played fiercely and well against other public schools in Philadelphia through the Playworks coaches’ after school program. Coach Nick led our team as they played three exciting games.

The children all had a good time as we cheered them. As coach Nick says, “Elevate and Celebrate!” And that is exactly what we did!!!!

Picture Retake Day

Picture Retake Day is scheduled for Tuesday, November 22nd from 9 to 10AM in the Auditorium. This is for any student or staff member who was absent during our October Picture Day or not satisfied with his/her original pictures. If unsatisfied, you must return the photo package.

We encourage online orders using McCall’s Picture Retake Day ID: JL456125Q1 on Lifetouch.com.

Homeroom teachers and the office also have order forms. When returning your form and money, please remember to include the 6% sales tax.

Note from Our Guest Principal

Dear Parents/Guardians/Staff Members,

This is just a friendly reminder that no one other than school buses are to park in the school bus zones outside of McCall School. Your child’s safety is our primary concern and we hope you will adhere to this directive.

Additionally, many of our staff and students ride their bikes to school.  Please be courteous to avoid any safety issues that may arise.

Thank you in advance for your support,
Sheila Weisberg
Guest Principal

Schoolyard Plans

Bambi Yost was back in town this week for the next step of our exciting Schoolyard Project!

Below are 2 presentation boards which were posted outside the gym this week in an effort to gather input/feedback from community members.

Board 1
Board 2

Please leave comments and feedback below on the attached forms on the wall in the envelope by the boards or email Bambi Yost (byost@iastate.edu)(ATTN: McCall Master Plan Feedback in the subject line). We want to have everyone’s input as soon as possible so that we can move forward with design documents.

She will be back in town with the next version of these master plans during the week of conferences: Monday, November 21st to Wednesday, November 23rd

Final master plans will be available early this spring after a final review by our Principal, The Big Sandbox, and University professors, Bambi Yost (ISU) and Lois Brink (UCD). These master plans are “living” documents and are intended to be used as a basis for fundraising and construction.

These master plans support and build upon McCall‘s existing Community Design Collaborative (CDC) Master Plan from 2012-2013. Revised master plans were created by Iowa State University landscape architecture students and Assistant Professor Bambi Yost in collaboration with The Big Sandbox and the University of Colorado Denver Landscape Architecture Professor, Lois Brink. We are also collaborating with the New Hampshire Stormwater Center, the Philadelphia Water Department, and the School District of Philadelphia.

This fall master plans are underway at 4 South Philadelphia Schools: G W Childs, Stephen Girard, Eliza B Kirkbride, and General George A McCall.
